Circular and Inclusive utilisation of alternative PROteins in the MEDiterranean value chains

Current European agricultural production systems are highly dependent on protein imports to meet the nutritional needs of aquaculture and livestock farming, but also for human consumption. This issue is particularly relevant in the Mediterranean region, where drought and ecological deficits are worsening the self-sufficiency of traditional protein chains. The main objective is to establish a stable and robust Mediterranean agri-food production system, exploiting locally grown crops and using proteins obtained from the use of agro-industrial by-products. This objective will involve the adoption of innovative techniques for insect farming and the cultivation of microalgae that use these by-products, with a consequent acceleration of the production of proteins of interest both for feed and food.
