The SaveGrain-CER project aims to preserve and store the variability of cereal species autochthonous of the Puglia region from genetic erosion, promoting the in situ and ex situ conservation of reproductive materials, as well as the multiplication, characterization, phytosanitary remediation, and the registration of varieties in the national register of the best performing varieties. The regional network will be improved to increase the documentation available on these genetic materials contributing to the agricultural biodiversity, to promote, disseminate and valorize the Apulian cereal heritage. Panel tests will be set up to verify consumers' appreciation of products made with the best performing varieties and denoted by health properties which will help to estimate the economic sustainability for the reintroduction of ancient local cereals into the area.
