Anti-aging metabolites from traditional Mediterranean foods: fate and mode of actions

The Joint-Lab, between CNR-ISPA and Plant for Human Health Institute of North Carolina State University, represents a unique combination of research interest and skills that serve to define the key anti-aging metabolites from traditional Mediterranean foods (TMeF). Moreover, the two teams collaborated in order to highlight knowledge about: different ability to deliver bioactive phytochemicals and metabolites of TMeF phenotypes (artichoke, pomegranate, table olives); evaluation of human gut microbiota of modulation and polyphenols biotransformation, through the two-way polyphenols-microbiota mechanisms; scavenger activity, antioxidant mechanisms and anti-inflammatory properties of digested bioactive compounds and gut microbial metabolites; study of bioactive metabolites modifying gut barrier function and TMAO formation, as markers of potential health impact.
