One Health Basic and Translational Actions Addressing Unmet Needs on Emerging Infectious Diseases

The project focuses on five Research Nodes. Three "vertical" Research Nodes address the following topics: Emerging and re-emerging viral threats (with a focus on respiratory viruses and zoonoses); Arthropod vectors and vector-borne pathogens; Diseases caused by bacteria and fungi resistant to multiple antibiotics (AMR, with a focus on molecular mechanisms of multi-antibiotic resistance). Two transversal Research Nodes interact bidirectionally with the basic and translational activities of the three Research Nodes described above: Integrated epidemiology in a "One Health" perspective (human, animal and environment), monitoring and mathematical models; Development of new therapeutic strategies (identification of molecular targets, generation of libraries of molecules for drug discovery approaches, testing of possible effective candidates and their optimization).
